The Island of Pátmos

Pétra Beach

Follow the beach along from Gríkou, up the road and past Flisvos taverna and this is the view that you'll see, looking out across Petra beach (getting its name from the Greek for 'Stone' and the Kalikátsou rock).

The first section of beach is coarse sand with lots of tamarisk trees for shade.

Further along you cross the path out to Kalikatsoú rock, across a dried lake bed (crunchy salty sand underfoot) and come to the larger pebbled beach with sun brollies. The lake of Petra plays host to migrating swans, herons and ducks during the winter, when it is full of water.

There was a very friendly duck on the first, more sandy beach, while we were there.

A striking building on the hillside above.
