The Island of Sámos
Votsalákia (Kámbos)
At 1437 metres Mount Kérkis towers over this region of the island. This attempt at a panoramic view doesn't really do it total justice, but not bad for the view from our room first thing in the morning
Beaches
At the eastern end of the long beach is a small volcanic outcrop
The sand seems to go on forever, with just a few pebbles
Fishing boats and pleasure boats go past
At the western end the sand gradually gives way to pebbles...
...which gives people the opportunity to play at sculpture
It is also well worth the 40 walk from Votsalákia to Psili Ammos
See the views on the walk here

Around the resort
Some of the views are positively Alpine
Several unusual flowers are to be found...
...as well as some lovely gardens (always nice to see an old féta container put to a good use)
The splendidly tiled rooves are often decorated with stone-cast birds
The blue hut on the left is the Votalákia taxi office (0030 22730 37600 - book the day before for return to airport) and on the right is the marvellous grocers called 'Fruitopia'
Some of the more unusual things - a pizza delivery bike and a poster advertising Miss Mirea in the 'Crazy Cobra Show' - the mind boggles
Tavernas
