Lead Lolly

If you should shake them by the hand,
Feel theirs slip through yours like sand,
Count your fingers while you can,
Before you sign for the promised land.

Lead Lolly,
Golden promise,
Of the sharks and their mob,
Lead Lolly,
Paying back pounds,
For borrowing ten bob,
Lead Lolly,
Soft targets,
Of the rich man's job.

This thing's a runaway train,
If you thought it was an asset,
You'd better think again,
Else most of what you own,
Could take a one-way down the drain.

Lead Lolly,
Golden promise,
Of the sharks and their mob,
Lead Lolly,
Paying back pounds,
For borrowing ten bob,
Lead Lolly,
Soft targets,
Of the rich man's job.

APR's and interest rates,
Insurance premiums and repayment dates,
Low cost starts and flexible baits,
Brand new cars and a prepackaged fate,
"A cheque with your name on it,"
Takes the cake,
You're champing at the bit,
At the starting gate,
For the sword of Damocles,
The infinite weight,
The burden of repayment,
The fear of being late,
The repossession of your soul,
Replaced,
With empty hate.
