Poll Tax Blues

We don't rate this levy,
It's another Tory ruse,
I say we don't rate this levy,
It's just another Tory ruse,
I'll bet they get exemption,
From Establishment Club dues.

We've got those trying to ignore it,
Poll Tax Blues.

If we were given a choice,
They wouldn't let us choose,
Well, if we were given a choice,
Then they wouldn't let us choose,
There'll be no referendum,
'Cos we'd only lose.

We've got those trying to ignore it,
Poll Tax Blues.

Now our overstretched tempers,
They're on a mighty short fuse,
Yes our overstretched tempers,
Are on a mighty short fuse,
We'll have clean 'n' empty bins,
But holes in our shoes.

We've got those trying to ignore it,
Poll Tax Blues.

We've got a long list of don'ts,
And hardly any do's,
Oh we've got a long list of don'ts,
And hardly any do's,
They'll be fencing off the landscapes,
And charging for the views,
It's an open wound to freedom,
Not some fiscal bruise.

Yeah, we've got those,
Crying to deplore it,
Lying to afford it,
Vying to despoil it,
Trying to ignore it,
Poll Tax Blues.
